The Tshwane University of Technology’ (´óÏóÊÓÆµ) 2025 Student Representative Council (SRC) elections were history in the making, recording an unprecedented 57% voter participation, the highest turnout since the University’s establishment. This milestone reflects a growing culture of student involvement in shaping governance and representation across campuses
Final institutional results confirm the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFFSC) as the leading formation, securing 34.35% of the total vote and three seats in the Institutional SRC. The South African Students Congress (SASCO) followed closely with two seats, while the uMkhonto Wesizwe Students Movement (MKSM) and the Student Christian Organization (SCO) each claimed one seat, completing the seven-member council. This outcome gives the EFFSC a clear lead and the strongest institutional presence heading into the new term."
The Action SA Student Chapter closed at 2.55%.
At Campus level, the results also showed vibrant political diversity as students put their right to vote into action. Faculty level elections also showcased diverse representation, with candidates from multiple student movements and independents winning key leadership roles, indicating a healthy mix of political and academic engagement.
´óÏóÊÓÆµ management has hailed the record turnout as a victory for student democracy. As the new SRC prepares to take office, the 2025 cohort enters with a strong mandate from an engaged student body. This year’s election not only reshaped student political dynamics at ´óÏóÊÓÆµ but also set a new benchmark for participation and leadership, proving that democracy thrives when voices are heard.
