Tshwane University of Technology鈥檚 Ga-Rankuwa Campus celebrates a remarkable sporting season after its netball team clinched the Tshwane Netball League title and its aerobics team secured a spot to compete at the FISAF International World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Ga-Rankuwa Netball Team 1, comprising both male and female players, triumphed over the Soshanguve Campus team with a nail-biting 28鈥27 win at the University of Pretoria鈥檚 Hillcrest Campus on 20 August 2025. The victory marks their second consecutive league title after also winning in 2024. With one men鈥檚 team and two mixed-gender teams, the squad also challenges stereotypes and promotes inclusivity. In addition, the team extends opportunities to the Ga-Rankuwa community by welcoming residents to join and participate.

Meanwhile, the aerobics team has been on an impressive winning streak, claiming the Best Team trophy at the Federation of International Sports, Aerobics and Fitness (FISAF) National Championship in May 2025. Recognised as South Africa鈥檚 top team for the past five years, they are now preparing to compete internationally from 21 to 23 October in Prague. The championships will feature Sport Aerobics and Fitness as well as Hip Hop Unite disciplines at the Sports Hall Kralovka.

Ga-Rankuwa Aerobics Team coach, Lovedalia Ledwaba, commended her athletes for their determination and spirit, saying their commitment makes coaching them rewarding. 鈥淚 try to accommodate their individual strengths and qualities while building our routines around their abilities. Even though I am their coach, I also draw strength from their determination,鈥 she said.

Team member Kgothatso Moruti, a 21-year-old third-year Accounting student, shared his excitement about competing on the world stage. 鈥淩epresenting my campus internationally is going to be an incredible experience. Wearing the University鈥檚 colours and competing against top athletes from around the world, is both a responsibility and an honour,鈥 he said.

Moruti added that the team is training intensely to achieve their dream of becoming international champions. 鈥淲e are practicing as though this is our one and only chance to win,鈥 he said.

Both teams continue to push their limits daily, being proud ambassadors for the University and building a legacy of sporting excellence.
