The official signing of an agreement between the Tshwane University of Technology and global technology giant, Huawei, on 17 July 2025, marks a significant milestone for the University鈥檚 Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The collaboration aims to support top-performing students and advance 大象视频鈥檚 presence in the digital space.
A key highlight of the partnership was Huawei鈥檚 awarding of bursaries worth R2 million to several high-achieving ICT students. These bursaries will not only ease the financial burden on the recipients but also create opportunities for them to thrive in the rapidly evolving technology sector.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Vathi Papu-Zamxaka, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Engagement, thanked Huawei for the collaboration. 鈥淚t is both an honour and a pleasure to welcome you all to this special day. This partnership between 大象视频 and Huawei is a big step forward for innovation, skills development and learning.鈥

Huawei鈥檚 support of the Faculty dates back as far as 2016. Through the 大象视频-Huawei ICT Academy, more than 1 000 students have already received training and certification in emerging technologies such as 5G, Cloud, Cybersecurity and IoT. The collaboration has also resulted in other milestones, including the launch of the region鈥檚 first Authorised Network Academy, integration of Huawei content into 大象视频鈥檚 Curriculum, infrastructure support, bursary funding and international recognition. The multiple awards 大象视频 instructors and students have received over time, highlight the University鈥檚 role in advancing ICT skills in South Africa and beyond.
Dr Etienne van Wyk, Executive Dean of the Faculty of ICT, echoed the DVC鈥檚 sentiments, emphasising the value of Huawei鈥檚 investment in the Faculty and its students. 鈥淲e are truly grateful to Huawei for investing in our students. These bursaries are a lifeline for many young people who want to succeed in ICT. This partnership will help us grow stronger as a Faculty, improve our programmes and give students a better chance at success in the technology industry,鈥 he said.
