Providing access to students beyond the borders of SA
Speaking on the launch of online programmes, Prof Ben van Wyk, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Technology, said the new online programme is a significant step towards broadening the University鈥檚 reach and providing access to students beyond the borders of South Africa.
鈥淲e live in a country where there is a high demand for higher education, however as the biggest contact university in the country, we are limited in how many students we can host in a contact mode 鈥 therefore the online space provides an opportunity to broaden that. It allows us to expand beyond South Africa as we enroll a number of international students, particularly on the continent.

Prof Ben van Wyk, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Learning and Technology.
Promoting online education
Dr Edgar Nesamvuni, Executive Dean at the Faculty of Management Sciences, said the University and the Faculty are well positioned for the future. 鈥淭he concept of traditional education has changed radically within the last couple of years. Being physically present in a classroom isn鈥檛 the only learning option anymore, not with the rise of the internet and new technologies, at least.鈥
He added that the University is entering a new era 鈥 the revolution of online education. 鈥淲e have systems, including staff members, who are highly skilled in these new methods of teaching, in place to ensure efficiency and quality training鈥, said Dr Nesamvuni.
